If any of the HO gurus can weigh in, appreciated. What would be average fair retail you personally would pay for top end parts for 71: heads, intake, crossover. Heads is loaded question I know, range from fresh done to cores no parts, so say good shape cores with all parts for example. Trying to figure market on what is middle range deal to high retail (such as some ebay buy it now ads). Thanks.

I'll try...
The 191 heads: I personally wouldn't buy a set of bare heads off ebay or anywhere else unless it was from someone I knew well. I am very suspect of bare heads. If you took time to tear them down, why didn't you build them back to ready. If you have a fresh complete set that are ready to bolt on with premium valves, springs, etc.... those were bringing $1500 - $2000 depending on how good of shape they are in. Most people who sell fresh heads can and will provide receipts from the machine shop work attesting to the parts used and show proof that the heads were magnafluxed and pressure tested. Nobody I know buys bare heads from an unknown source, least not me. I would get them checked out at a good speed shop and assembled with premium parts before I would try to sell them. Most shops will not rebuild a bad set of cores. If they are rebuildable, you will sell them more easily, and make more money if you do. The Intake & crossover: If there is no damage or signs of repairs and all the bolt threads are in good shape or have been repaired with heli-coils, I'm guessing about $800-$1,000 for the matching pair. $2300-$3000 on average if everything is pristine with no hidden surprises. Nasty or Rusty wont sell for much. Hope this is what you wanted to hear. Eddie

I noticed after all these years my 71 HO dipstick non ac is different from my 72.
Anyone know if one is right for each year or none?

I'd say the 'Use SE oil' would be correct.
The SE oil designation started in 1972 Model year. (1971 didn't have that designation) ![]() EDIT: The SE stick is for 1972, the other is for older engine. Thought you were asking about a 72 engine.

The top one is from my 71 and bottom in my 72.
Thanks for the responses and thoughts. Don't think it's a A body vs F body as Vince has the 71 A body with the bottom one?

No difference in the '71 non AC dipsticks between d port and roundport, the differences was when the roundport '71 had factory AC, then there was a different dipstick for A body and for F body.

Thanks "ol Pinion head for the non-AC clarification. If you don't mind sir, what was the difference in the '71 F body HO w/AC dipstick versus the '71 A body HO w/AC?

My WAG would be the AC dipstick is longer to curve around and under the compressor and mounts.

The lack of""hodecals" on the shaker prolly indicates a D port engine

My Bad, I misunderstood. I got it now. I thought he meant there was a difference between the A body & F body HO AC dipsticks. Please correct me if I am wrong: "I'm pretty sure, the 455HO AC dipstick was different from the Standard 455 AC dipstick and it bolted up to a different location on the upper support bracket. I did not know about the non-AC dipsticks being the same or interchangeable on HO & standard engines. That's good news for guys with non AC cars. The original HO with air conditioning dipsticks are scarce, and the repro upper tube that fastens to the upper AC support bracket that I have seen, are not even close. I have my original upper AC type tube, but can't use it because the factory brazed on tab came off and damned my butt...I've lost it. I'm having to run something I found on cheat-Bay. The original upper tube has a flat side that orientates toward the block so it clears. It's a tight fit for the round port AC type dipstick. Anybody have an upper tube they can post up? I would like to duplicate the tab that came off of mine.

For '72, the upper oil indicator tube for 455 HO cars was slightly different than the '71 HO version. The '72 HO upper tube is the same as the one used on the '73 & 74 SD cars that had AC. This style, '72-74 roundport app upper tube was reproduced about 15 years ago. avail from PY...assume Ames. The dipstick used with the AC application '72 HO and SD cars with AC is the same as used on many years of D-port AC cars.
