Just bought an WC engine that came out of a 53k mile original 78 400 4sp gold car. Although I didn't get to see the car, I believe it is a Y88. I saw the front end panel that came off the car, and it had y88 striping. Owner hired a shop to pull the drivetrain, install an LS6 with, I believe, a corvette subframe and independent rear set up. Aftermarket gauges, custom dash, etc. Basically, the owner f***'d up a nice original car. Anyway, the engine that I bought still had the shaker drain hose, and I wanted to get you guys' thoughts on it. Looks molded, but I suppose the bends could be due to the rubber from a straight hose being hardened into that shape over the years? The hose has the ribs on it and markings that I believe say, "GM6107M-CIP". Also note the pinch clamp.

No thoughts? Maybe I asked the wrong question. Does anyone else have their original hose from a 400 that has the same characteristics and printing as the one pictured? I know some years back, I bought a repro hose that looked nothing like this.

I think with a quick read through the other posts in this thread you will find that most believe that the Pontiac engine cars had staright hoses, and the Olds engine cars had the molded hoses. Probably due to the difference in engine design and valve cover height. Your hose looks like it was straight and has simply taken on the "memory" of the position it has been in for the last 37 years.

Thanks for the feedback regarding your thoughts on whether my hose looks to be straight or molded. I'll bet you are correct in that it hardened into that shape over the years. Yeah, I read through the other posts, but didn't see a lot of info/pictures of the straight 400 hoses, other than most believe that the Pontiac engine came with the straight hose. I know the thread was mainly aimed at 403s, but thought this to be a good place to ask others about their 400 hoses, particularly if they have the same markings as mine, and whether they are made from the ribbed hose. If there is a consensus, maybe we can get Ames to have the correct ones reproduced?

I don't get here often, I'm with bob on the hose. The orig hoses bad bumps on the one side. I'll send you a pic in a pm.

There is markings too, plus a black clamp should be there too.

Burd, if you sent a pic in a pm, I haven't received it. I went back and looked at the link posted earlier of the pics you posted on transamcountry, and now I can see the markings on your hose in the 2nd pic. It looks like the same markings as are on my hose, "1/2 GM6107M CIP". Mine doesn't seem to have the bumps you refer to but definitely has the ribs. Maybe I missed it, but is your car a 400, or 403?

The 79 Y84/W72 still has what appears to be the original hose. I will check it when I have time and see what markings it has

Thought I'd mention that I saw a very original 76 400 4sp TA at an auction over the weekend that still had it's original shaker drain hose. I should have taken pics of the markings on the hose, but I saw the same "1/2 GM6107" that is on my 78 hose. I don't recall the last few digits in the marking to see if they matched up to my hose. For what it's worth.
