I'm not into the "patina" crap. Rust is rust and it eats up metal no matter how much clear coat you may spray on it. I was thinking maybe a 440 Pontiac/ Tremec drivline. I have nothing against the LS3 engines (or any of the LS family of engines). IF you live somewhere with draconian emissions regs, they're a great option, but I'll always prefer to install REAL Pontiac engines in classic Pontiacs.

meh. I have a 440 in the Lemans - my LS3-powered T/A* will eat it alive.

If that Goat had the original drivetrain, sure - keep it the 60+ year old engine technology. But seeing the OEM mill is long gone I would go the B-man route here.

Patina looks good on certain things. Especially 50s trucks. But I think of patina as bright paint worn down in places. That is rust, not wear bro lol

I agree. I like the car and would love to have it. I'd dissolve the 'patina' and put a Pontiac engine in it.

As I recall, WA and CA have some fairly draconian emission laws. In those cases, the LS3 is a perfect candidate because it's CARB certified. I like LS engines. When the 4.3 in my Silverado gives up the ghost, it will be replaced with a 5.3 based 382 ci LS. Speaking of 440s, the late PA Jim Taylor built a RAIV headed, street/strip 440 a few years ago. If I recall correctly, it produced nearly 700 hp:ALL engine, no bottle. I'm fairly certain an LS3 couldn't eat THAT...

As I understand it since Ive been in CA we are even worse than draconian. If a car is post 1975 it must maintain original smog equipment. So you cant swap in a modern LS motor easily because it wont retain said equipment. Its ridiculous.

From what I've read, installing a newer, cleaner engine into an older vehicle is permissible, as long as the emission system is upgraded as well. SEMA worked very closely with CARB in drafting the new parameters. That's WHY GM's LS3 engine kits are CARB approved.

I am kinda starting to dislike the word "patina" because I think snooty antique stores or something, but for lack of better term (nicely aged) it works.... I really dig "kind" patina. Chrome that has a slight clouding starting but still shines and definitely doesn't look new, paint that is intact and not past it's life, but also has "the look" of old lacquer... but still shines. "Rust" is about 3 stages past my idea of "patina".... the thing with patina is it is hard to put anything redone on a "patina" car so it doesn't stand out. Anyone have a slightly cloudy but nice 70 style R chrome valve cover?

while the 65 is a great potential and cool, it is beyond patina

WA - not so much.

Anything older than 25 years is not subject to testing in WA. Testing is only done in the most dense urban areas - most rural areas aren't subject to any testing.

I live right on the edge of Seattle and my old cars don't retain any emission equipment that hurts performance or gets in my way.

He's probably correct , it must have a chebby engine in it , & that could make it a chevy firebird , but it sure wouldn't be worth the money their asking for it then. Just for the sb in it would take away at least 20K.
