Torque Techs are set up for offset-offset and I had mounted my electric pump on the frame rail and used offset-center outlets so we added enough between the two piece tailpipes on mine.

Every single Chevy guy does.
Tuning the combo is always the goal..I take it to the track to test any changes ..I'm not a drag racer I'm a tuner....but I can cut a pretty mean light!.I currently won't give up the friendly highway gears...I used to run 3.42 gears a few years ago..didn't like the revs down the highway. Also with my engine and gearing the engine falls into its happy cruising rpm at 60 to 70 mph it just purrs.I know for sure with more gear and convertor and with traction..it would run high tens. The key is traction...I run stock suspension at the moment with just CE 3 way adjustable shocks...
Back in 2009 when I first ran this combo I was pretty happy running low 12's at 114..that was in another 80 trans am with 3.42 gearing..I messaged Dave Bisschop at SD performance..and he was pleased I was happy...but told me there is a lot more left in that combo..7 years later and its running 11.3's at 120/121 with less gearing!

Torque Tech make some nice fitting exhaust. My old Buick buddies turned me on to them back in the 90s.
If I can find some splitters that look OE and accept a 3" tailpipe, I will go that route on the LeMans build. Will definitely use Torque Tech for the rest. I've had nothing but good experiences with them.

Have you been to their website lately? Sadly it turns out Torque Tech is closing its doors..."retiring".

This is Not the Cheapest way to go fast but for me there is a couple reasons i enjoy cars that can do what Ernies does!
1. No reason to Build a High RPM engine to go fast unless you can't go fast with a Low RPM Street setup! He is Achieving his goals with out having 7.000rpm shift points and 4.000rpm on the freeway at 60mph!

2. Its much easier on parts! Saves money so you can spend it on building an even bigger beast!

3. Its the Biggest Ego Bump ever when you tell people your combo and they are looking everywhere for the nitrous! Lol

4. Since you are not tearing stuff up all the time you get to go out and enjoy your car more! And you can even hear your radio because you aren't buzzing down the road at 4k rpm with Dual 3" exhaust!

5. You are Playing into a Pontiac Engines Strengths! Massive Power Right F'n Now! I use to run Big Block Chevys when i was young and even with a really nicely built 454 with a solid cam and "Small" Oval Ports at 255cc, RPM intake it couldn't hold a candle to any Pontiac i have ever built on the Street!
Sure i can build a 496 chevy that makes great power but the pontiac just flat kills it on the street!

I've got some 3" mandrel 45s I'm going to have welded to look like splitters and polish.

Might have to order some for future projects if they are going to close.

Default Best with 3.98

I follow and enjoy reading about your car alot. Freaking fast. I also want to drive my car on the street and the track. My goal will be to run low 11's, I won't be running 3.08 gears since my 69 firebird has a Dana 60, 3.54's. But that's all good. Can't wait for you to hit a 10 second pass.

Last night discussion with an expert racing engine designer/builder/tuner almost got sideways for me when I defended the use of 1/4 mile performance evals for the use of evalating road-race engines.

The fella was completely correct that "every part and everything done to a 1/4 mile engine needs to be thrown away when applied to a road race engine. 8700 rpm, 5000 stall converters, gears, tires, chassis.

Then i said:" well yea except i do an off-idle launch with highway gears to get the numbers."

I watched every single Hotshot Corvette owner fail in the Corvette World fail to Street Race & Beat the Hellcats.
All I talked about was Pontiac Musclecars Street Racing in the End.
Also Said Fick You & Chevy Power.
Going back to my Pontiacs.

It's a damn fine intake, especially so if Derek hits in just the right places with his grinder.

Nice going guys, the train just keeps on rollin'.

I love many engine brands but times have changed!

BBC 467
10.1 compression
AFR 265 heads (340 CFM)
Edel RPM intake.
228/238 @ .050 hyd roller, .549 lift
111 LSA

573 fl.lbs at 3800 RPM
TQ through mid is 585 - 590

591 HP at 5300 RPM
HP ramps up to 628 HP at 6200 RPM

Looked at a few "mild" 496 dyno sheets - TQ numbers are 640 plus

In most cases traction is the primary issue on the street.

Pontiac 455's pull those numbers quite often, its not till you get over a 1,000hp that chevy has an advantage and thats because of aftermarket support!
541 pontiac 785hp at 6400, pump gas, Standard port SD 350 E-heads, no big deal Mild Setup
Pump Gas Street 467 660hp 632tq mild hi ports, single Carb
Pump gas 498cid Pontiac SD Street Engine 700hp 650tq standard entrance E-heads, single carb, not pushing anything hard.
Notice how many 625-675hp 496 BBC's are running 11.50's and slower!
Same power in a Pontiac runs Low 10's!
PHR i think it was had some Bad Azz 496 that made a bunch of power on the Dyno went on to run so slow in the car they had 3 pages of excuses of why it didn't run 9's
Pontiac's basic Design Functions Much better as a High HP Street/Strip Engine Cube for Cube From My Experience
And Way to go Ernie! Wait till you guys see what he ran today! He is getting Faster!!!

I remember about 20 years ago being told The Pontiac V8 is dead.
It was by a well respected Mopar engine builder.
I mentioned Arnie Beswick.
He had norhing to say back to me.

690 HP on the same dyno as post 274 ran consistent 9.9s in a 3700 lbs Chevelle.

BBC 502
10.5 compression
Out of the box Brodix 270 (340 CFM)
Edel RPM
Ultradyne solid roller - 255 @ .050 intake
4.10 rear axle.

I don't care what some kid on the web claims.
There are MANY happy dynos pushing high numbers! (saying half of dynos may be a stretch, maybe not)

Thumbs up

I used to know a chebby guy. He had a 71 Chevelle 496 rectangular port iron heads, low rise single plane, Dominator, solid roller cam 11:1 CR. Ran 11.40's every outing at the track. But it wasn't immune to engine troubles. Broken valve train hardware, very rough idle, can't hang in traffic, overheating, he would never cruise long distances with his 4.11 gears, 4000 stall converter and tempermental combo. Yes it ran great ET's but was not well suited to street duty which is why he went LS eventually. A well built and well tuned Pontiac street machine will always be the best in my opinion and reliable to boot! Anyone of the other brand guys would have to see it to believe it and then they still would be skeptical to see a pump gas Pontiac running low 11's with 3.08 to 3.55 gears, HR cams, 3000 stall converters, Qjet or 4150 cam, etc. We all know there's a lot of tuning and know how to get there but that's not supposed to happen!

No surprise there!
Here is a far better PROVEN combo.

Downsize to a 454
Factory iron OVAL ports, 2.19 / 1.88 installed and bowl work.
9.5 compression
Ultradyne hyd flat 231/239 - 110 LSA - .555/.570
Edel RPM
HP 1000 Carb
1.75 inch headers
4.10 rear axle.

11.4 @ 115 in a 3800 lbs car
