I made sure to watch my water temp as well. My Lemans, with a 350 and 2.56s and upper 70's air temps, ran about 180 degrees @ 70mph. Was interesting that just running 5mph faster, my temp went up 10 degrees. Don't know the RPMs because I don't have a tach.

After putting my '64 GTO back together after a body off, I drove from Hermosa Beach to Saginaw , Mi., then to my folks place in N.J. , stayed a few days visiting, headed back to Ca. via interstate 80, stopped in Reno to visit friends, then back south 500 mi. via 395 to Hermosa Beach. About 7000 mi. in a couple of weeks.

The entire trip I was thinking about how fast the valves were opening/closing at 3 grand on the interstate. Didn't have one issue. Britt

With the previous NOM engine, 250 miles round trip when I went to Cruisin' OC (Ocean City, MD). Prior to doing so I was a bit concerned since the engine only had about 1500 miles on it...all went great!
The new engine with it's issues hasn't seen 15 miles...smh

In my last post I told of my trip from MI to WY in my 73 GTO. It was an auto with 3:08's back then. What I didn't tell was when I came back to MI I was pulling a Pinto ,,, yes Pinto I bought out there which was in GREAT shape that I bought for only $ 300.00. But anyway I pulled that back behind my 73 with a U-Haul bumper hitch which weighed about 65 lbs. I got about 16 mpg with it then at about 65 most of the way back. But what was funny, well not really I also had my truck which was pulling a U-Haul trailer 18ft, & every time I filled the car I filled BOYH tanks on the truck. It was a 1976 4wd short bed Ranger XLT that was lifted 5 inches with 38 monster mudders on it. No matter empty or full it got about 9mpg. But the GTO never missed a lick all the way there & back. Going out I got about 19mpg's but ran a bit fast at times. See the past post .

When we were married (25 years ago) we drove it to Pismo Beach for our honeymoon, about 4-5 hour drive.

I bought my '72 Luxury LeMans in November 2009. I drive it everytime I leave my house. I own no other vehicle. I burned the exhaust valve in the #8 cylinder in 2013 and that cylinder doesn't even bounce the compression gauge. 0 compresion in the #8 hole! I drive that car 10,000 miles a year minimum' sometimes it is 15,000 miles a year! I do 80-90mph on I-10 and it doesn't give a crap!!!! It idles like Crap but once you get it some gas it doesn't care. Give me a Pontiac or Give me Death! Forgive me Patrick Henry!
My average drive to "town" is an 80 mile round trip!

I just drove my '66 Tempest Custom four-door hardtop from Fairport, New York to our new home in Palm Harbor, Florida.. The trip was nearly 1,400 miles and it was fun and without drama. The Turbo 350 swap and 2.56 gears made for a great highway cruiser.

Back in '91 me and two of my best friends drove my '68 Firebird from western South Dakota to the Pontiac Nats in Englishtown towing a 4x8 trailer with tools, av gas, another 12 bolt with 4.11s and some spare parts. Got to another friends in New Jersey and swapped out my 2.73 rear end for the other one and drove to the track towing the trailer.
Track told me I couldn't run below 12.0 (no roll bar, racing belts, I'd never even seen a rule book) so we pulled some timing out of it and ran 12.05 N/A, went out first round and drove back to his place. Couple days later we swapped rear ends back and headed down to D.C. and went to the Pentegon and the Smithsonian. Stayed a few days and headed home. All told we probably drove 4500 miles. 17 days of an epic vacation that we have on an 8mm tape. A lot of stories attached to this trip, this is the condensed version.

Swapping rears? Mixing in vacation? Very cool. Convert some of that 8mm to digital and post it on you tube for the world to see!

I took my fresh 1970 GTO in 2013 to the Performance Years show and I live in Newport News VA and that was over 350 mile each way. At an easy pace it was over 5 hours as I was avoiding I-95 as much as I could. Never will forget it, can't wait to do it again, now if work would allow me some time off.

Couple of weeks ago went to show over the weekend in my '64 GP. About 400 miles. New shocks and springs, really comfortable and about 15 mpg. Car performed great and no problems. Good friends, loads of beer and a cool road trip. Can't ask for more that that.

When I had my 70 GTO I drove it home for leave 1000 miles one way in 1985. 400std, M21 and 3:90s, manual everything. Then all over SE MI. Then back. Attending car shows and the GTOAA nationals. Didn't have a worry about it as it was my daily driver at the time.

In May I drove from Waterloo Iowa to Putnam Park in Indiana to do Midwest Musclecar Challenge. Friday we ran 4- 20 minute blasts on the road course. We cruised to dinner that night. Saturday was AutoX runs at the airport and the 7hr drive home. Grand weekend total was 1100 miles and a bunch of racing.
