64 Tempest "Drag Pack"??

It's a nice looking car, but his description is terrible. His description makes it sound like a lot of it was factory - NO WAY. I ordered mine new, and I guess I missed the fiberglass parts and the 421 emblems. I have no idea what a "Drag Pack" is, and you didn't need a radio delete as the radio was an added cost option.

Agree with OMT. You would think if the factory was giving you a "Drag Pack" that included a radio delete that they would also heater delete. Typical description hoping to impress the impressionable.

Drag Pack is a typical Ford Term and the air cleaner hoses and bonnets make you think that he was emulating that tread from the 60s.
65 up intake/455 engine as EVERYONE knows does not meet the 64 model year characteristics. That being said, it would be a nice car to drive around as the body looks ok. Guy is just throwing out "hooks" for the fish on the web. A bunch of nice pics though. Tom V. My Oval Ford Drag Pack air cleaner for my Barry Grant 6 shooter stuff would be a "non ram air" mild Drag Pack representation.

Mopar used the term. friend bought a 1969 GTX 440 new and still has car with all paper. he ordered car with the dragpack option. witch included hemi trans (auto). large Dana rear, different rear springs and other items that I don't recall. these cars were built with the hemi cars at the same mfg plant.

I stand corrected on the name.
So where is the Hemi engine, the Dana Rear, the special Leaf Springs, etc on this car? The vehicle actually resembles a "Thunderbolt" type vehicle with the Hose Ram Air parts, the Pontiac Super Duty engine with the Dual Quads, so it could be called anything. But it obviously is not a factory car. Many, Many years ago saw a few tempests with really good engines put the hurt on GTOs and other Brands. The owner said "why should I spend the money on the GTO decals when the important parts, the body is the same on the Tempest, The Le mans, or the GTO and the Tempest is cheaper. Tom V.

So both of us make a small correction and both of us learn and also pass on some valuable info to others.
If the guy would just sell the vehicle (no engine or trans, I would be interested and would get off of my Pro Street Car that needs some work. Tom V.

If it is a race car, where are the track times. How can one advertise it as a drag car that has not been run at the track. I like the look and it seems to be well done. It should scoot as the post coupe weighs in around 3200 lbs if I remember. Then the light bumpers probably take another 100 lbs off. I think it may run in the 12's. It had windshield washers at one time. See the wiper switch.

Drag Pack is definitely a Ford term...a friend has two of them. '70 Torinos. No drag pack option for Pontiac...

So rare that it's one of none.

64 tempest
The rare Tempest,...
When my buddies car, "this tempest",.. came up for sale a couple weeks ago he called me and said look at what this classic car lot in grand rapids is saying about my tempest,..."laughing" I didn't know it was that rare back in 2008 when i bought it with a 326, powerglide and stock bench seat, no posi rear... I should have kept it,.. I told him he shouldn't have sold it...  In 2008, my buddy got it here in michigan, and painted it RED with black interior and buckets,. I done a Pont. 455 with 62 heads ported heads, XE 274 cam on a 106 ICL and did the 12 bolt posi, 400 trans, gauges , MSD,. stock 5/16 fuel line it went 12:27 at 108 first pass... Then did a pusher pump 1/2' fuel line,. a set of Kauffman heads ported to 320 flow with 850 demon carb it went 11:74 at 112 mph,.. a very fun car with the shifter was still on the column,... He sold once it in michigan for couple years bought it back and blew the motor up, then put in the spare 450 hp motor thats in it now we think,.. He drove it a while then took it to carliyle, PA show, for sale,.. and sold for a nice price to a guy in new york, and that guy got it going 11:40's,.. That guy had it a couple years and sold to another guy in NY, he had it for a while and we think he took it to Mecum and sold it to this dealer ship in michigan,. Its definently a cool car, we loved driving it,.. How it got this rare we will never know,... Good luck to the sellers... |
