Question came up in another thread so I am starting a new thread to continue the discussion without hijacking the original thread.

Here are the pages from the Pontiac Chassis Illustration and General Information Catalog for engine options. 1967-1968-1969.
One of the columns shows the last two digits of an engine number. I checked the EUN from my car and it doesn't match the last two digits shown on the chart.

Any idea what those two digits are used for?

I think it was like the part # for the engine. Somewhere I had a list of some, but can't find it right now.



That's also why the sheet (usually) has a blurb about not ordering from the chart.
They didn't sell complete engines.
(just fitted blocks usually)

I'll keep looking for some of the engine numbers.

That sounds reasonable. Good luck locating those engine part numbers. Would be nice to learn some more about this stuff...

Cool info. Spot checked a couple and the numbers match. Last two digits of the engine assembly number. Mystery solved!
