Here is the latest version of the 3D printed AC bracket, using a Sanden style compressor. This is pretty close to the production version, it seems to package pretty nicely at or about the location of the stock compressor. Access to plugs and valve covers is very good, no issues here. The nice thing about this particular version is that it can be added after the fact with no modifications to the original supercharger kit. So if you install the blower first , and add AC later that's no problem.

I'll mill out some out of aluminum and see how they look.

That’s great that you designed the compressor bracket so there’s no need to reconfigure anything in order to add it.

Bravo!

Big milestone today. A forum member who is the first to get a pre-production supercharger kit installed the very first blown 455 in a 1969 GTO today. The engine looks great in there, and there were no interferences. We cleared the power steering box, firewall, and look to have plenty of hood clearance.

Like the other engine featured in earlier posts, this one also is a 455 with un-touched cast iron 4X heads.

I am very pleased with how the installation looks, still some harness routing and plumbing to do, much of the wiring will be hidden, but overall this install looks like it belongs there.

We'll have some in-car test feedback shortly, so stay tuned!

Congrats, nice clean install. I love the fact it will clear the stock hood without a giant scoop. Can’t wait to hear how it drives and performs

Hmmm... wondering how close a 73-76 T/A shaker scoop would come to clearing in a 2nd Gen Bird?

I think a custom supercharger lid could be made without too much trouble that could mount the shaker lid in the correct position. To do this properly, I'd need a car to take measurements and fit check it, but other than that I don't see a problem. Of course it would not be functional as the supercharger takes air from the front only.

That fellow is about to take one helluva joy ride with that system.
I would get some real sticky tires for the rear.

Any updates? I'm really interested in this project and possibly purchasing one of the units.

The lid casting first article arrived today, it has been approved and the production lids will be here later today. The production tooling is also finished and I milled the first casting. Everything is looking good for the lid. I will send it out for powder coating and then mill in the Pontiac logo.

The tabs on the perimeter are used for tooling surfaces, they are milled off during the second op.

The same foundry that did the bathtub intake is doing the supercharger castings, and as usual they did a great job.

If anyone is interested in purchasing a supercharger kit, please use the interest form on the web store, https://innovaengineeringtvs.com/contact

Here are some pics of the first production castings:

Thanks for the update on production. Curious on how the one unit you installed in the car performed.

The owner is still working on the install, we'll have a full report when it's finished and we get some seat time.

Really interested in this for my 70 Formula, but looking at the pics of the finished engine, I have doubts that it would fit under the hood. The 70-75 Formula twin snorkel hood has probably the least clearance of any Pontiac vehicle, even less than the T/A. If you have time, could you take measurements of the height/width based on various common points of the engine?, i.e. measurement points that are common to all blocks.

At the rear, it is 13.25" from the block casting where the distributor mounts to the highest point of the blower lid. This is ~ 1" lower than the factory air cleaner on a 1st gen firebird.

The front is 11.25" from the center line of the two top water pump bolts to the highest point of the blower lid.

Unfortunately I think it may be a problem getting this to fit a 2nd gen bird. The way the nose slopes down at the front leaves little room.
On my 70 Formula, with the stock 1 1/2” drop base air cleaner, I measure 8.25” from centerline of upper water pump bolts to the top of the air cleaner.
Using wadded aluminum foil on top and closing the hood, I measure about 9.0” max clearance from water pump bolts.

*edit. That 11.25” measurement seems really high. Are you 100% on that?

You're right, those numbers are not from the top water pump holes. I measured it this morning from the two top holes to the supercharger lid, and I measure 8.5".

I'll take some pictures when I can get somebody to hold the camera while I take the measurements.

So it seems like this will fit a 2nd Gen firebird but we do want to check carefully. When we get the production castings, I will send a full size machined mock up to whoever does the first 2nd Gen bird, we can confirm hood clearance with this.
