Here is the new sound. Replaced the turn downs with Flowmaster 2.5 tailpipes and hid the tips. Nice tome at idke, great sound at cruise, and just as loud as before when you may it.

Just dumped the double pumper for a Quadrajet built for my engine by Ray Klemm, Cliffs old partner. God what a night and day difference. I thought the Holley was good and this thing just blows it out of the water. Best move I’ve made recently.

Been a while so I thought I’d give an update. The only thing not finished in the interior is the rear quarter panels and headliner/sail panels. I have every part to finish and am still getting estimates of 2500 to get that done so it may be a while. The 3rd gear synchro in the TKO was bad out of the box but because of assembly time the warranty ran out before I could claim so I’m gonna have to pull it and fix it. Oil leaks are all but stopped. I have one left from the pan rail which I think is warped.. everything else is good. Had the underhood wiring cleaned up by a pro. It runs good. The 60919 cam is great but I do know it’s under utilizing my engine setup. Oh well upgraded one day.

Yes that cam is underutilizing the money you have sunk into those heads.
I see this all too often with the builds that folks post about in this street section. That .470” lift is just starting to get into the lift range where the added flow capacity of aftermarket heads ( even just out of the box) start to shine. As far as my thinking goes goes any after market head should be run with a minimum of .525” lift . Your .470” lift is sacrificing ( due to low port air speed) a lot of added torque you could be having the motor producing, and probably a minimum of an added 25 hp. The added port air speed would make a day and night difference in throttle response feel. In short your heads are like a fire hose with a glass of water passing thru it, there’s only minimal port energy taking place.. As I look back thru this crazy 6 year long string of post, of which at least 50% of them should have been posted up in the body work section I see where in post 158 where you fell into the trap of having your heads ported and opening your wallet even wider for that port energy reducing mod in terms of the cam you are now running. So to recap, You paid for more air flow then you are now using and not using that air flow capacity is costing you power .

$2500 for basically a headliner is ridiculous. Or are the rear panels you just got covers for?
Those rear panels assembled repop are like $175 for a pair, and are bolt it. The sail panels are just cardboard with material glued to them. I would imagine those are fairly inexpensive too. You need to shop that better, bow headliner installs should be under $1000, and that's on the high end. .

I called three upholstery shops near me and one on the Eastern Shore and all were between $1200-1600 for a headliner and sail panel install on my 66 - me supplying the parts - assembled sail panels, Legendary. One place said they had to remove the rear window to do the job.

That’s kinda what I figured. Paul Carter spec’d me a cam on my ill fated first build that was awesome but when the engine grenaded I just didn’t have the money to do a roller setup at that time. Cars still plenty fast right now and I can’t really abuse it cause of the 3rd gear issue. Oh well I kept the voodoo cam because only one lobe needs to be reground. I’ll do it one day.

the 64 lemans headliner is a pretty easy diy project...we orderd the sail panels already made, theres a amall part of it that you have to buy really thick glue for at top sail panel, a small rail and the headliner itself is pretty simple too. just pull the slack as you go and tuck into the trim on sides, you may have to come back as you go and adjust but trim pieces just pull off. me and my son did it in a couple hours

Longer life for that MSD would be to get it off the hot firewall and put it somewhere under the dash inside the car. Would also make the engine compartment look less cluttered.

If you're still running those BBC rockers from the first 2 builds, your lift is around .530". Duration and timing events are also altered (amplified) so there is nothing fundamentally "wrong" with your combination for the so-called "driven-daily" use of the car. Room for growth in the heads but not a detriment to street performance.

You're in the goldilocks zone for street driving with that cam. I wouldn't change a thing, just drive and enjoy.

Well its been a while since an update so I thought I would let you know. Going on 10 years I only have a few things left for it to be complete (bahahahah) most of which are interior related. I have to have my pinion angle adjusted because I have a very slight vibration and just eyeballing it it looks a little steep. I have adjustable UMI uppers. My factory radio was converted to Bluetooth for hands free calling and all that and of course the BlueTooth module lasted 3 years and died so I am currently looking at stereo options but I will be keeping the factory radio in the dash for appearances unless I find a really good hidden radio in which case I will use one of those block off plates. I have the dreaded synchro problem in 3rd that afflict some TKO's so I am gonna have my local transmission shop install their shift improvement kit which is supposed to address the grinding issue as well as make the shifting not as clunky. I had Cliffs old employee Ray Klemm build me a quadrajet for my engine and it performs flawlessy. It is amazing how much different the car runs, performs, and gets better gas mileage. I guess the lesson from the double pumper is be careful what you wish for. I drive it about 4-5 times a week so I have some rock chips and stuff so the initial shock of that has worn off. I wish someone had told me that level of paint is a nightmare to keep clean haha. I feel like I am constantly wiping something down. Other than those things I am enjoying it and it doesnt seem like its been ten years I have been working on this thing. As I finish it up I will post more pictures and info because a LOT of you guys have been very supportive and informative. If any of you have good stereo recommendations as to what youre doing I would like to hear them. I have to have my tunes.
