My 78 runs a HFT slightly smaller. SD ported 320 cfm heads and through the mufflers runs 11.50s in the 100 degree hear but has more rear gear TH350 Continental, 10" convertor. Snowflakes with DOTs and the spare in the back. No spare 9" slicks and light Pro stars has hit 10.90s in "good air". A Torker II and a Holley 850. Not sure if the Northwind might be a little big.
With a loose 5000 stall convertor and a solid roller it would 1.5 60 ft , now in the 1.6s

Put a carb on so you can tune it,Raise total timing to 38.I gains 50hp going from 32 -38.Most hei distributors will loose almost 4° of timing at 5000 to 6000 rpm. Also the 340 cfm is way too much I'm going through the same **** with my 340 cfm heads and a old faithful cam.Get rid of the NW and install one of the street dominator copies.Im porting a 6x-4 head to 275cfm and when installed will outperform that 340 head I have now

My HFT is an Ultradyne 296/304 on a 112 LS 239/247 @0.050 Harold made when he was at Lunati for awhile. Bullet and maybe Lunati also have the UD lobes they can grind.

Up your timing by 2 degrees, make a pass then look at your plugs. If they are good, keep putting 2 more degrees in her until you get close to the safe zone or mph falls off. I would also like a set of 3.73s with the OD transmission, depending on tire diameter, but that is just me. Do the timing first and see what happens, it is free.

What does your exhaust consist of , pipe size mufflers . . Info on size of headers . Something is going on with power production . Reason i ask is because going from 2 1/2 to 3 with ultra flow mufflers I picked up 3 tenths I run a 461 E- heads-ported T2 . It’s only part of the equation. You definitely have work to do with suspension set up and as mentioned, practice .Many great posts in this thread . I’m also wondering about your converter. U need to get that 60 down. TA s are heavy , weighed mine at Norwalk yrs ago and I was at 3900 with me in it and half tank.

You need to find a tuner with a chassis dyno, and get your timing table and VE tables dialed-in.
Probably need to work on the fuel enrichment when you hit the throttle - the electronic equivalent of changing squirters on a Holley.. I'd add more stall before I changed gears. Personally, I think you have too much intake duration, but I doubt anyone else on here would agree with me

That wilson throttle body is awesome. It is not too large. It's not a carb and does not need high velocity across the venturi to pull fuel. It has nothing to do with intake velocity which is related to the head port cross sectional area and not the carb or throttle body (unless it is restricting it). I currently have a holley xflow 900cfm rated TBI on my 535 with 375cfm wp butler edelbrock heads. It has too much restriction as I can only get to 90-94kpa at 6k+ wot which is 1.7"-3" of vacuum meaning a bit too much restriction. I am changing to a wilson dominator tb and doing the terminator x with mpfi. With all that said, you're definitely under performing on et and. speed. You sure the compression and everything else is what you believe it to be?

As this is in the race section is there a reason that street pump gas compressions are being used?Inquiring minds need to know!I dont see any 14-1 race gas combos.Tom
