Hi, all...

In the process of changing a burned out bulb, I discovered that while my backup light lenses may be a little dirty (and NOS ones are available on eBay), the gaskets are dirty and hard as a rock (no surprise).

It seems that there are several sources for parking light lens gaskets, and OPGI even has the license plate light lens gasket of the same material (white foam), however, nobody seems to have the silly round ones with the screw hole loops for the '62 and '63.

The factory part number is apparently 5953211, and should fit all full size models for both years.

I have solid ones for making templates, too, if anyone happens to have a source for that 1/8" - 1/4" white foam (assuming it can be cut with normal tools vs having to be stamped).

I had same issue with front turn lens on my 66 2+2. I found some material at grainger that was similar foam with high heat properties. and made them

I’m interested as well to make ‘63 taillight lease gaskets. Do you have a pn for the grainger stuff?

For my bu lights, I found some silicon gaskets on Amazon that were close and made them work. I have more if you want them. LMK

Sorry for the later than expected reply, and thanks, guys.

There is a listing on eBay right now for lenses and gaskets which supposedly fit both Tempest & full size, '61-'66. I'm skeptical, as I know the backup lights were considerably different between them. I may order them just to check out the gaskets, or ask for some measurements.

I'll let you both know how I make out, and then we can discuss the silicone option and the Grainger foam option if need be.

As for the inner tail light lens gaskets (white ones), I thought I might have had an extra set. I know I have a few NOS bezel-to-body gaskets (black). Let me have a look-see at the end of next week when I'm back home, and I'll follow up.

I just got back from vacation. I'll look for my roll of material I used for my gaskets.

I found the information on the material I purchased from Grainger. It is now discontinued. I only bought a 12x12 piece. Wish I would have bought more now. As I recall it was pricey. I think it cost me around $42. The material is white silicone foam for food industry and was 3/16 thick and was good from -67 to 392 degrees. The package had a Marian Chicago Inc label on it. The numbers on the package was BF1000 and 20Y093.

I also attached a possible alternative. Its good -80 to 450 degrees. I would probably go with the 60 durometer material.

Progress of a sort!

I contacted Rubber the Right Way (http://www.rubbertherightway.com/), and asked if they would be willing to reproduce these given a usable template (they also offer flat material in varying thicknesses, so making my own from their stock would also have been a possibility). Robert got right back to me, and asked me to send a housing and an existing gasket. They would be happy to add these to their catalog, it seems. Turnaround is approx 4 weeks.

I just so happen to have a spare pair of backup lights complete with gaskets lenses and bulbs, so I will be sending one off to them at the beginning of next week, when I'm back home from this trip.

Sometimes, you just live right, I guess. :-)

I'll update the thread as we move through this process.

A BIG shout out to Robert at Rubber the Right Way (http://www.rubbertherightway.com/) for the excellent job on these new backup lamp gaskets. In fact, they even include (now) the black lamp housing to bumper gasket. P/N 06-279P. They look, feel, and fit great!
