Decided to add the EUN/engine code and decal picture. Too bad it was too damaged to read. I wrecked it more (removed it) thinking the code was under it.

Was 73 a banner production year overall ?

I think total Pontiac production was around 868,633 for 1973.

That's wild. Would not have guessed that many in 73.
I did a Google , and AI said 1968 was the highest year for PMD at over 900,000
But that they did not ever hit a million in one year.

I think 73 was the 2nd highest production total for Pontiac. You have to remember that the 1st gas crisis didn't hit until October of 1973, well into the 74 model year. So Pontiac sales didn't fall off until the 74/75 model years, then recovered some for 76-78.
But I agree that is a very High EUN

I have recorded 5 engines higher than that one all 455 with 4 being SD 455!

Studying the 1973 assembly manual, I feel the black ball shifter knob was added by the original owner/brother. So, I found what I believe is the correct knob and replaced it. I will be keeping the removed knob with the other things.

Love the no console look!

I do no console in my bird, mainly so it doesn't take up as much space. Not a big fan of the door pockets either, and use later years that have just the 'map' pockets.

Between the two, it makes the interior feel much more roomy.

As far as I know, it's OE, not replaced.
No build sheet found, but looks like it may have been there.

There is still one more on eBay. He wanted $219, now down to $175.
I had found a loose center medallion and bought that at the same time finding a complete knob off eBay. As one can see, they are different. I have the large crest on there now.

The repop carpets I've tried in the past don't fit well around the shifter hump, and when you position them to fit best, they end up a little short at the firewall.

I have an ACC one from like 15 years ago, haven't looked at it since then, hope it's not faded out....

My observations of 70-73 unmodified 3 speed stick cars (something I have been quite keen to take note of) is that you are mistaken.

The black ball seems to be on every single pre-1974 car that I have come across.
My hunch is that the simulated leather knob was the intended part, but possibly they were not used because of supply issues, or because the supply of black ball knobs had not depleted to a low enough point.

It doesn't really matter though, make the car as you like it.
