The 061 heads were 2nd design premium fuel cylinder heads used on full size cars on both 2 barrel and 4 barrel motors but they were not used on Grand Prixs. The GP did use 670 heads but the 10.5 cr version on the 400 and 360hp 428. The 428 HO used the same 10.75 cr 670 heads as the GTO. The 400 engines all came with the AFB and the 428 had the QJ . I have 3 67 Grand Prixs with the 400 engine and all have the 670 heads with AFB. I also have a 1967 Catalina with the 290 HP 2 barrel motor that has the 061 2nd design premium fuel cylinder heads. The manifold in the photo looks like a QJ manifold but if it is original the engine should be a 428.

I've had two 67 GP 400 engines that I pulled from the cars. Code XJ iirc
One was 061 heads and AFB
Other was 670 heads with QJet
This was mid and late 1980s

The window sticker on the car indicates 400 engine and no 428 emblems present.
All I could ID in the pictures were the 670 heads and QJet intake
But it could be anything in it.

Yes, hard to know what the car came with this many years down the road. I just know what I have observed personally and what the MPC shows. XJ code should have the 10.5 cr 670 heads according to the parts book.

Those books don't always tell us right every time.

I had buyers for 061 heads after the HPP flow test articles, and kept a look out for them.
Only ever had that one set on the XJ engine.
73-74 #46 heads with screw in studs from 350 engines got popular after those articles too.

Are 061 heads worth anything these days? I always thought they were not high performance because they weren't the 067's. I believe both are closed chamber. Is the difference the same as a #13, #12, #62, #48 heads, or maybe the 68 #16's?

Interesting build sheet on this 74 GTO sold in Canada. Bench seat 4 speed, but the build sheet says it's an automatic? $43K in Michigan with 64K miles.

nice 74 but how did that subframe get so beat up?

The center section of the subframe isn't supported on the inside so when you use it as a jacking joint, it bends like shown. I've corrected several of them over the years by cutting it out, straightening it in a press and welding it back in.

They had good flow numbers for D-Port .
Home porters and home builders wanted them.
They didn't bring as much as 67-72 screw-in stud D-ports , but they weren't even sellable at all before the HPP articles.
Going rate would have been 150-200pr .
250-300pr for 67-72 screw-in stud heads. Back then.

1970 intakes got popular , and #46 350cid heads -also- after the articles.

There aren't anywhere near as many hands-on guys now as there were back then.
Paying to port or fully rebuild cast iron heads now is a diminishing return compared to box stock aluminum heads for non-numbers cars.

75 Trans AM 4-speed in Ohio at $11K NR. Says it's Buccaneer Red, but it looks a little orange. Prolly a good buff out on the paint would bring it back. Ad also says it runs and has a rebuilt 400. A set of 15" honeycombs on this car would up its value. I'm not sure what impact taking the picture in a parking lot full of fresh burnouts makes. Does it scream the car is fast, or the owner beats the crap out it?

68 Firebird convertible in NY at $65K. Nice car, but $65K buys a lot more than this car. The little stuff stands out, like the unpainted hood tach. The original 350 engine was an odd choice to build up that much. I removed the 350 in mine and installed a 400.
