Default Headlight Wire Harness routing

On my 71 & 72 the Headlight Wire Harness runs through the Core Support Wiring Grommet (pic 1) on both sides of the Core Support but is not attached to anything in between, its just draped across (pic 2).

The 72 Service Manual shows a total of 4 clips that hold the harness to the core support (Fig 12-62) and Ames sells them for this application (P104) but I dont see where they could be attached.

Which is correct? If there should be clips where do they attach to the core support?

Thanks

There should be plastic clips attached to the core support. Look carefully, or I suppose they could be missing.

Definitely no plastic clips. Havent seen the holes for the clips either. Can you send a pic where yours are?

Not without taking the nose off. I won't be back home until after Thanksgiving.

On my '71, there are three clips holding the headlight harness. 2 plastic ones located directly behind where the horn brackets attach to the core support on the vertical part and one metal clip in the center attached with a bolt also on the vertical part and under the horizontal hood latch brace where it attaches to the core support. The plastic ones pop into a small hole in the core support. Hope this helps.

DavesGTO - thanks for all the info. My Service Manual had the same pic but until you mentioned they were behind the horn I didnt see them.

Interestingly the PS one seems ok assuming I have the correct hole (pic 1) however the DS one will need to be opened up somewhat it appears (pic 2 with horn removed) and the horn bracket completely blocks it when its installed (pic 3).

I dont see anything in the manual diagrams regarding the center clip, is this the hole you referred to in pic 4. Can you send a pic of the bolt and clip you mentioned.

Thanks for your help and patience

Looking at the Assembly Manual diagram it would appear that there is only one plastic clip used behind the PS horn bracket and one metal one in between the two horns. If I am seeing that correctly then it would explain why there isnt a good hole or clearance for a plastic clip behind the DS horn bracket.

Here is a pic from a 70 upon disassembly. You can see that 3 out of the 4 plastic clips failed. Only one holding the harness up.

Thanks Bruce

Interestingly on my 71 (not sure yet on my 72 but likely) it is just like the Assembly Manual diagram that DavesGTO posted. I have confirmed one hole for the plastic clip right (#3) behind the PS horn bracket on the core support and a hole and a square cut out right in the center of the core support. The square cut out looks to be for sliding the nut (#9) in place and the screw holding the clip (#10) goes through the hole.
