Default Console shifter lo position th350

Quick question on the console shifter for my 71 lemans w/th350. When you pull in down to lo, is it supposed to lock like it does in 2nd and drive? Currently when I pull it all the way back to lo, it’ll keep going back until it hits the trim piece with no feel of hitting a detent mark for lo.

That's what it does, goes to lo without a detent and then you can move the shifter up to 2 without pressing button and also into D and N and then you hit a locked detent. You then have to push the button down to go into R or P.
