Default 71 72 PONTIAC GTO LEMANS Wiper Transmission Assembly

My wiper trans end where the wiper arm mounts is stripped out, the driver's side, with the pin.

The pin is good, but the knurled cap/cover that is swedged on stripped, and the cap just spins freely.

Are these reproduced? It's obviously hide-away, so know many other makes are not hide-away, but curious what the crossovers are and what to watch out for.

Are there differences in the 68-72 range A-bodies with hide-aways?

Ok so how does that search? What vendors offer that part number? Or is that just stating that the part number works for those models?

Maybe I'm not understanding it right?

I see now, OER repops them, but are on backorder. Dang!

I need one now, shoot, at this point I would even go used until the repops are available.

I was just giving the original application information. Could be useful if you end up needing to find a used part. I did not know if the part was reproduced but it sounds like it is or at least was. It was an attempt to answer your last question in your first post. Good luck!

Yeah that was very helpful, thank you!

Sadly, expected ship dates from OER suppliers are giving a July timeframe. They may not continue making them, will just have to see.

Looks like Goodmark might make them, will drill down on that today.

I have about 6 weeks before my inspection expires, and wanted to make a couple shows. Fingers crossed....

Looks like Restoparts make them too, C240575 is their' part number.

The pic shows it without the require pin, but it does state for hidden wipers, so will see.

It was $50 more than the OER one, which I guess I can live with.

I'll report back once I have it in hand, compare it to the original.

Again, fingers crossed....

They may be selling the non-hidden wiper assembly.

Frank's may be a good source here.

Yeah didn't think about Frank's, thank you, will keep that in mind.

The one I ordered arrives today, will see how that looks.

Ok here's the pics of the wiper trans I ordered from Summit.

It's the Restoparts/OPG C240575:

https://www.summitracing.com/parts/opg-c240575

During my search I found Jegs had one branded, not sure it's the same, but the pics are identical to the pics for the Restoparts/OPG one:

https://www.jegs.com/i/JEGS/555/79985/10002/-1#qaTab

And, it's half the price of the Summit listing. (Uhg).

Anyway, Looking at the construction, there's really only one concern, the way the cap the wiper arm mounts on does not seem as sturdy as the original.

Not sure that's a problem, and to note, the one I removed had the cap spin freely, so...

Another note: The mount for the wiper arm didn't have the locating spline. But it's pretty straight forward mounting them, just take care on placement.

I chased the threads in the new one and it mounted fine. It appears to operate normally, and cycled it numerous times.

My take: It works. But believe the OE ones are of better quality. No surprise.

I may actually buy an OER one once they are back in stock to have a spare, and will comment on this thread for comparison.

The locating spline is only on the driver's side mount, here's a pic.

The driver's side only mounts one way, the cowl has a cutout for the 2nd post.

EDIT: And no, you can't really redo the stamping to tighten the post, the base is pot metal and it would break.

I did check Frank's before I ordered, and they didn't have any in stock.

This one did in fact come with the recess wiper pin.

Yeah was kinda lucky I guess. I need a state inspection, didn't want to miss a couple shows. Hopefully it last long enough to get it thru inspection!
