So I've been doing little things like replacing belts, hoses, thermostat, etc. No idea how old existing ones are- so now I know LOL! I was washing her today and noticed all the chrome trim on the body has a blue plastic strip on top of it to match the paint- except the small piece in front of driver door. That one is black.(first pic). I went to check other side and passenger side doesn't even have one in front of door!(second pic). Doesn't look like there ever was one. Replacement fender- doesn't look like a replacement. Idiosyncrasie of this model? Any ideas why this is?

You could buy these after-market at just about any place that sold automotive paint supplies. You have an extrusion that you cut to size and secure with pop rivets, end pieces designed for the application (the ones on the door were made to clear the fender when it opened) and the plastic piece that presses into the extrusion. It was sold by the foot and cut to length. These were a lot more sturdy than the flimsy factory door guards.

Here is a picture of my 1973 from the early 1990s. You can see the same type of trim with a black vinyl insert. That car had no door edge guard, I added it.

Thanks. So you're saying chrome trim/door guard was not factory? Any idea why would it not have a piece on passenger side fender?

On your buildsheet are options B84, B85, B86 and B96 are the side moldings and door edge guards.

Whether they are the original I don't know.
The missing piece could be because the fender was replaced/worked on or it just fell off?

One other thing that might help is to ask these questions in the big car section (67-79 Big Pontiac) that has more people with this knowledge, plus you will also get post counts, while in the Lobby you get no post counts. The trim looks factory. The fender w/o the trim is most likely a replacement fender that did not come with the trim. My guess is previous owner never got around to installing the trim on replacement fender.
Not sure how they attach on my TA, but on the 72 lemans the trim has studs that attach with a nuts. Hard to get to in some areas i.e. doors.
