Conversely, as I rot I am less interested in fluff/options - this is definitely of the no frills variety which makes it interesting in this economy...

I am the opposite as I get older I want more creature comforts. The Avalanche has heated steering wheel. heated seats, AC, rear air shocks, rain sensing wipers, front and rear bumper sensors and Bluetooth stereo with steering wheel controls, 6 in display hands free calling/receiving.
I am still determined to put AC in the 79 C10, I did add a 7" display screen in the truck for convivence. Of course if technology is on the fritz I can just put in a REO Speedwagon cassette. The truck is only used for junkyard runs but spending some long hours in the sun can get tiring and AC would help a lot especially in that small of a cab
