Original PCB - they just cleaned it up and resoldered it in places. I spent the money I saved on a the trans rebuild on the gauges. They cost me just as much as when Pete Serio did the rally setup for the '68. I was impressed that they turned the set around in a week in a half.

They cleaned all the copper nicely and the soldermask is in great shape.

If this is for a connector, I'm curious what style mates with this? Reminds me of an old tube socket...

That's the connector for the dash harness. It's a horrible design .

Nice looking Javelin. And I love the color of it too.
A guy I went to high school with was given a 68 AMX as a 1968 graduation gift from his dad, an AMC dealer. Color, AMC Orange.
No he doesn't have it. I saw him at our 50th Class Reunion and he said he'd sold it. And called himself a dumbass.

It looks easier to plug in than it is. The sockets have a tendency to slip out of the connector and you have to have it clocked just right. The flat GM plug is way less fussy.

This is also the design and plug for a 1966-67 Cutlass/442 - may even be the same exact moulding.

They do NOT take multiple fittings well and will pull the prongs off the circuit "board".

I can verify it is horrible.

Been feeling your pain with the lack of aftermarket parts and scarcity of used/original. Went to the AMO show last month in South Bend. Met a bunch of nice people that were willing to share their knowledge and a few that gave me killer deals on parts. Started with a budget of $800. Three short hours later, I'd spent close to $2500.

I purchased an Eaton power steering pump and brackets, to remain "correct". Been reading the issues with leakage in the Eaton and being I have a 74 or 75 401, which uses Saginaw, I went that direction.

Taking my time and being careful on the restart. It seems the engine was rebuilt but was not ran, or ran very little as there is still assembly lube on the valvetrain. Scoped the cylinders - 060 over pistons and clean cylinders/pistons with no pitting.

Always love seeing updates to your thread. That trans was a lucky score but you’ve earned your luck with this one. Before you know it, this car is going to end up with two good looking sides :-)

You might be right - I'm considering tackling the body work after October. Don't tell my wife.

I went through the shifter last night. It had a hodge podge of hardware on it, so I installed new bushings, spring clips and washers. I'm not sure I did it "by the book", but it sure is a lot tighter now. Maybe some Hurst experts can point me in the right direction.

I kind of feel funny about regularly posting AMC updates in a Pontiac forum, but there seems to be general appreciation for these cars here. There's a growing list of projects for the Ventura we need to get on, but honestly, the Javelin is a lot more fun to work on. X-Bodies are kind of a PITA in comparison to this car or an A-Body.

Sold hundreds of those kits when I worked at a Speed Shop in Syracuse, NY.
Never have the pleasure of installing one.

Got the new trans in and took it for a spin down to our Saturday night car gathering. The new bushings for the shifter also helped a lot. It drives, shifts and steers great! I stopped off at the gas station on the way back and got it's first full tank of gas. I'm trying to get Cole to drive it, but he's intimidated by the 4 speed. Not sure why - he used to drive the T/A.

Today I installed the lowering plates and did the front wheel bearings. The car looks way better with the 1.5" drop up front and has a slight rake like my GTO. I've put off finishing the interior and wiring long enough, so I guess I'll get back on that.

Looking great! Seeing the photo at the gas station reminds of the most annoying part about these cars. The design of the gas fill doesn't work well with modern fill nozzles. I have to bed over and hold mine in place and manually keep the nozzle open when filling. None of the rest of my fleet makes me do that. (Except the motorcycles)
