I have been moving my GT-37 around from bay to bay in my garage, and I find that every time that I take the gear selector from the R-1 gate and shift to neutral,or try to shift into the 2-3 gate the trans. locks up in 1st gear. The gear shift is in the neutral position and locked. When I get under the car I just simply have to push the R-1 linkage towards the front of the car and it releases. i had some problems with it before I put the car up years ago. I attributed it to one of or both things that had been done to the trans. First I had completely worn the clutch out and it seemed to get worse as the clutch did. Second I removed the reverse safety switch from the steering column. When I picked up the car from where I had left it , I put a new clutch in it and I just recently re-installed the reverse safety switch. Still the same problem. It is 3-speed on the floor. I have not got the #'s from the trans yet and do not know the brand name. I know that it is the original trans. and linkages (Hurst shifter ). 11" clutch with an 8 spline front shaft on the trans. All of the linkages seem to not have any excessive play nor is there any leaking from around the shafts in the trans. I am just starting the restoration and would like to know if anyone has had this problem, or thinks that a trans. swap is in the future for me. Thanks, and Happy Father's Day to all.
