I have been swapping the interior from my 1980 Esprit to my 1979 TA. Well, lets just say that the '79 is an electricians nightmare. There are so many cut wires and what not under the dash that it isn't even funny.
Here is my dilemma......the gas gauge was working fine. I had to unhook the wiring so that I could pull the gauges out again as I was trying to see if I could replace the printed circuit gauge with that of the other car. Anyway, that did not work so I put everything back together the way it was. I did not hook up any other electrical the rest of the day. That night, I turn the car on to make sure everything is operational and the fuel gauge indicator flies up past the F and barriers itself on the right hand side. I unhook the wires (2 of them) and connect the wires to the opposites they were just attached to. Still not working.

What could have done this? Is there a short?
Second, I had to cut the dome light wires and use the bezel and such from the other car. Everything went in fine and dandy. I spliced the wires and connected them etc. I plug the battery back in yesterday evening and the dome light is constantly on. Checked the switch; it is off. There were two wires connecting this as well. Could the wires simply be backwards? Somehow, I doubt it since they are both the same color and were connected as one wire side by side. Could it be that it is connected to a constant power source?
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
