(WOW - I remembered my password!)
Anyway, I actually know Mike Garfinkel. I'm (ouch) 38 now but I've been "studying" the hobby for at least the last 20 years. Being from the Chicago area, I still never knew about the 62 SD GP being a re-body - until now. What's original, then? I digress. I bought McCarthy's book back in the late 80s when I was still in college. I saw the name Garfinkel and a mention of a SD car from the Chicago area. A few years later I want a heavy-duty CAR (not a truck) and really became interested in Chevy cop cars. I go to an auction in Mt. Prospect (suburb) and strike up a conversation with this guy a little older than my dad. That is Mike G. He had fun then, he said, but got out of it because it was just costing more and more money. I have his phone no. somewhere; if I run into him again I will inquire. About a re-body - it should be avoided if possible, and if not readily disclosed by the seller. |
