Bandit,

I have a 79 TA. I rebuilt my motor and got it to running pretty good. As "Olds" said, the 403 motors are weak because of the low compression causd by the heads. To get any worthwile power from that motor you have to get the compression up by miling the heads.

If you want that motor to come out of the hole strong, you need to check on your rearend. Because of the gas mileage issues when the cars were new, the 403 cars had a very high speed rear end. Makes good highway driving, but it will embarass you at a light.
