if it is truly a "stock" 400 rebuild with a RPM limit of 5500 a set of well rebuilt cast rods are fine.If anykind of race work,aftermarket rods are in order.IMHO the weakest link in the motor is the rod and put in the best you can afford for the RPM and HP.Tom
