Default after market gauge wiring

i am installing autometer gauges in my 79 trans am and am having a little trouble. the ignition power source that i am using to power the gauges is reading 12.75 v with no gauges pluged in but as soon as i plug one gauge in the power the the other plugs is cut in half to 6v then if i plug in a second gauge the voltage is again cut in half to 3v. What could be causeing this, and does each gauge have to be on a seperate ignition source? if any one has attempted the swap to aftermarket gauges any wiring tips would be a life saver right about now.
