$9K for 450 horses sounds like a ripoff to me. I mean, c'mon, how much does it cost for a shop to do the machine work?

I built my 440 engine, including 270 cfm ported heads, Ross pistons, Eagle rods, etc. for less than $6K. I did the assembly myself, but that shouldn't cost you $3K.

A basic stock rebuild with cast pistons and reusing your rods if they pass mag inspection should come in under $3K. To hit the 400 HP mark with a 400 though you'll need better heads than the 7K3s.
