I emailed Dan about his recollection of his match with John's Stage1. Here is what he had to say:

"....I think you are referring to the very first musclecar race back in 1985 at the Buick GS Nationals in Bowling Green , KY. Chamberlain and I were the two fastest cars, and we wound up racing each other. I didn’t win the challenge because I accidentally didn’t turn on my electric fuel pump. I had a Holley pump on it, and the mechanical couldn’t pull fuel thru it very well when it was turned off. I had a brain fart for that run with all the excitement going on. I remember I got the jump off the line, was pulling away in first, hit second, pulled away farther, and then the car shut down, and the Buick went on by for the win. Back in the pits, I told John what happened and asked if he’d be willing to go out again, and he said no. If I only knew then what I know now that our stock mechanical fuel pumps can handle 11-second cars! I remember that Muscle Car Review covered the race and I would expect the issue would have been around September or October of 1985. I can’t find my scrapbook for the T-37 at this time.

I think my T-37 was slightly faster than John’s GS at that point in time, but half of racing is luck, and it was on his side for that race...."
