want to hinge my lift off hood

I bought the car with a lift off cowl hood. It has Dzus fasteners - so the angle of open/close should not be a problem. The hood has strengthened area where the stock hinge would mount - even looks like bolts are threaded in.
should I use factory hinges, springs removed and a prop rod?
It's a very light hood.
anyone done hinges to a lift off?
