And this from a fellow I know and trust:
Had many sets of nos SD piston/pin assemblies over the years and all were exactly what you're saying. Always a different number on the pistons vs the box. Near as I figured is Pontiac cataloged the piston/pin "assembly" a couple digits different than the piston stamp number. I've had them in standard/.010/.030 and all were unmatching stamped # to box part # but always within a couple digits of the "bibles". FWIW. Bottom line is a single trough forged 455 piston with "any" factory GM part number is obviously a 73-4 SD app.
