The front x member was completely removed and a piece of moly tube was put back in its place to mount the rack. There is an integrated "crash bar" mounted on this bar that triangulates back to the lower control arm mounting point for reinforcement. The "crash bar" is the lowest point on the front of my car and what hits the gound and absorbs the impact.
