Question 2000 Grand Prix Turbo GTP won't start.

OK guys my buddy's son is going to college well his 2000 GP GTP turbo sometimes turns on just fine then sometimes it won't turn on at all when it's messing up you rev it up to 4000K rpm's and it runs good but once you let go of the gas pedal it starts to miss now some guys at the auto parts store is saying it's the crank sensor but no codes are coming up. Can you guys help us out? Also does it have a timing chain or timing belt?
Thanks! RJ
PS-I'm thinking maybe the fuel pump might be shelling out what is the pressure suppose to be at?
