Default brake lines

Hello, I am replacing my drum brakes with disc brakes and I am to the point of mounting my master cylinder, my question is the brake lines that run from the original master cylinder to the junction block have a coiled spring surrounding the line for about 2', I am guessing that this is there from the factory to bend the lines manualy without kinking line, does anyone know the purpose of this on there, I would like to remove the old looking coil and buff the line underneath it, any advise would be greatly appreciated
thank you
Tom
