Default Rear axle question 65-70

Hello,

I have been toying with an idea and wanted to see if anyone has tried it. I was looking into the feasibility of putting a 78-96 B-body wagon 8.5 rear axle in my 66 Grand Prix. The width is close to the same and the bolt pattern is right. What got me thinking about this was the fact the rear sway bars from most mid 70's b body sedans and '78 and later wagons will fit on the 65-70. I would have to assume the lower control arms run in a similar plane across the various model years. Anybody have any info they could share?
Thanks
