I remember back in the late 60's some cat came to town with a white 66 442 post, 4-speed, and poverty caps, looked like a taxi cab. We had some pretty fast cars around town then, a couple 396/375 Camaro's, a Hemi Charger that was optioned to the hilt, a Stage 1 Buick, and I can't remember the rest. We had one guy with a very fast 65 GTO tri-power,but he was on his honeymoon. We also had a very fast 66 427 Chevelle with 4:56 gears but none of the before mentioned cars could take the GTO. The 442 guy parked his car as far away at the drive-in where we all use to meet as possible. He said he would take on all comers for 100.00 a run. I sneaked off down the parking lot and looked inside the car. When I saw the radio delete I kept my money in my pocket. The only car that beat the 442 was the 66 Chevelle by less than a fender length. When the 442 ran the Chevelle the 442 guy said he floated the valves in third gear.I love my GTO, but my second choice would be a 442.I would have loved to see the 65 Goat and 442 run.
