Default New Floor and Shifter issue

I had a new floor installed in my 67 lemans convertible and now I have the motor installed and tranny, but I can not level it out due to the shifter housing not having enough room to come up through the floor. You can see where the bolts from the shifter came into the floor and made a dent from me lifting it with a jack.
I just dont remember my shifter being that far into the drivers side of the floor hump.

I am going to have to cut the floor back some, but I almost need to take out a 5" wide strip from top of the dome to the floor.

I was wondering if anyone knows if it is ok to cut the floor down that far in order to enable the shifter off the tranny to come on up through the floor properly.
