1969 Heater Box Studs...
So I'm renovating the heater and dash on my '69 Lemans non-AC setup. I replaced the heater core and disassembled the inner heater box, replaced and cleaned everything, and went to install it. Looks like the previous owner ground part of the studs down to less than 1/2" so long story short, 2 of the studs are too short, 2 are barely long enough, and 1 snapped off when I tightened it down. The box is installed and likely isn't moving anywhere, but it does have a slight wiggle to it if you push on it. Since the dash is already removed from the car and the inner fenders are too, I'm debating replacing the studs on the heater box to be thorough.
How difficult is it to remove the existing ones? I don't obviously see how they are mounted to the box and I'm sure someone else out there has had this issue. I'm sure I could just grind away on the backs of the heads but I'd hope there would be an easier way to do it.
