I’m thinning the herd and I’ve decided to sell my frame-off restored 1964 GTO hardtop. I’ve owned the car since the summer of ’05, and I’ve been putting the finishing touches on the restoration since that time. I’d estimate 1500 miles on the complete body-off restoration.
This is a PHS documented tripower, 4-speed, AC car in original code DD Silvermist gray with 214 black interior. I looked for many years across the country to find a car optioned this way in this condition. It’s a Pontiac, MI car built the first week of June. I have the original wheels and deluxe caps, but have added Hurst wheels and radial redlines. PS and PB were added during the restoration. Other factory options include 3.23 safe-t-trac, full tint, pushbutton radio with manual antenna, console (mint and correct ’64 only part), padded dash, and windshield washer / dual-speed wiper. All of these options are present. Odometer shows 75k, believed to be original. Since I purchased the car, I have added the Hurst wheels and radial redlines, mint correct ’64 console, restored taillight and gas door assemblies, new PS pump and correct hoses, NOS horn relay, ’64 only bellhousing inspection plate, and many other odds and ends. If you are familiar with ‘64s, you know how expensive just the console and taillight assemblies can be (a mint console just brought almost $2000 on eBay). The taillights can run $1000-1500 to rechrome if you can find a set in good enough condition to be restored. I also have gathered most of the rare and expensive ’64-only AC parts needed to get the AC going. The AC works! I also went through the engine with the help of Paul Spotts, who converted a set of 716 heads to screw-in studs for reliability. I have the original dated heads that go with the car. Mike Wasson restored the tripower carbs. I also installed an 068 RAIII cam. This isn’t an over-the-top restoration, but you’re almost guaranteed to have the nicest restored GTO at any local event and I proudly display this car with mirrors underneath. It could be a trailer queen with a little work, but that was never my intention with the car. Asking $49,900.00. Feel free to PM for more info and/or my email or phone number.
