Default 389 transplant into '62 Chevy dually

I have a '62 Chevy 1 ton flatbed dually with a 283\4 spd and 5.14 rear end. It runs ok but has a slight knock and feels underpowered on all the hills we have around here. I've got a 389\th400 and am kicking around the idea of dropping it in the Chevy. How will the 389 perform with that gear ratio and a gross weight of say 4 tons?
