Rebuild alternator

I purchased a core alternator for the good code and date for my 68 Firebird. Core looks pretty rough. Can a tech guy restore an alt to exact 68 OEM specs with reproduction parts or do I need to find a date correct alt in rebuilt original condition and swap case? My alt: 1100700-55A
