60 vs 80 psi oil gauge
I have a 67 GTO with stock 400 4-sp. A few years ago I purchased a beautiful set of original rally gauges but never did anything with them. So I finally decide to install this spring and while testing the temp/oil pod I was shocked to see I have a 60 psi oil gauge. How I didn't realize at the time I have no idea. Poor eyesight maybe. But the gauge is working nicely albeit with an 80 psi sending unit.
So a few questions: would the gauge read lower or higher with the 80 psi sending unit? I read where very early 67 cars had the 60 psi gauge so I guess I'm somewhat factory correct but the big question is will I be OK with 60 or will this gauge want to peg at acceleration? Why was the switch made from 60 to 80 in the first place is it anything to do with 389 vs. 400? I think finding a nice stand-alone 80 psi gauge is going to be near-impossible so I'm going to need to go with what I have.
thanks for any input!
