Default A dog never lets you down

I put my 14 year old black lab, Ace, down this morning. This is one of the hardest decisions I’ve ever had to make. I’ve been in tears on and off since yesterday. He fell asleep with his head in my lap,on the floor of the vets office. Groaning lightly, as he always does when I rub his ears. Man is that hard. I had to keep fighting the urge to just give him another week, or month, or whatever. He was just losing control of his functions, and unsteady as all heck. The last two weeks he went down hill fast.
So I’m sitting here thinking today. I lost my brother unexpectedly about 3 months ago, and an uncle 2 days ago, but never shed a tear in those cases. Sad, shocking, but not nearly as painful as putting my dog down. Why? I’ve come to the conclusion that my dog never let me down. I don’t want to be around people all the time, the dog, I didn’t mind. People I don’t trust a lot of times, but my dog never burned me. He wanted to be with me no matter how bad things got for me.
RIP Ace
