Pulley alignment
I am dropping a ‘69 428 in my ‘70 Trans Am while the original 400 is out being built. The 428 I am going to run has a SuperDamper on it so it requires a 3-bolt crank pulley. I bought one from RamAir Restorations. Very nice billet piece. I did a trial fit with the p/s pump and it appears that the crank pulley lines up ok, but the water pump pulley and p/s are off quite a bit. It looks like it might line up better with the outer groove, but according to the assembly manual, the p/s belt goes on before alternator belt:
It looks like the water pump pulley needs to come out further. Is the water pump snout shorter on the ‘69 428 than it would be on the ‘70 400? It looks like it would fit better using the outer groove, but that’s supposed to be for the alternator. I had no puller alignment issues on the 400 and this is the same water pump pulley/fan that was on that engine. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
