Default Flywheel identification help

So im slowly piecing together my car. Im finally getting to the part of cranking over the engine but i think i have a flywheel issue. So i have a brand new powermaster mini starter that i just put on (PWM-9000-10) and it is bolted to a 1973 400 block but even with 10 shims installed with it, the start will not engage. Its still not far enough down and is hitting the flywheel so im wondering if i have the wrong flywheel. This car was in pieces when i got to i cant say for sure where any of the parts came from. Is there some kind of numbers on the flywheel i can check or a way of measuring it to check? Its currently fully installed in the car so im hoping to not pull the transmission to check this out. Any information will help. Thanks guys.
