Default Voltage meter stopped working or shows low voltage

After getting the car running after sitting for 27 years, I had to use a booster box to start because the battery was toast. Replaced the battery and noticed the voltage meter showing low voltage or no voltage at all, my first thought was that the alternator was no good also, but after checking the charging system the alternator was putting out 14.88 volts. So, I'm thinking the voltage meter is faulty, am I wrong, is there an easy way to check it?
