Default GM2700 Tape Deck - No Power

Good evening and happy holidays!

First time poster, as I am an owner of an el Camino and not a Pontiac. I was gifted a pretty clean GM 2700 tape deck a few days ago. (Not the one with the digital clock and display)

I am currently running a 2700 AM/FM and that radio has always run well. However when I install the new tape deck — I get ZERO POWER. No lights, no sounds, zilch.

I have refurbed old home stereos — so I peaked inside both radios. And honestly they look identical under the tape mech — I don’t see any scorches or bad caps. There is more rust in the functioning unit…

I have read some other threads from some guys here who seem to know these units pretty well.

So — is there something obvious I’m missing? Is there a common issue I should look into?

I’m bummed and befuddled.
