Basic question regarding distributor and ignition sequence

It's been a long week and my brain isn't computing today.

73 400 - Installing distributor........#1 is set at TDC. Rotor tip pointing at #1.

Why are all the reference drawings showing #1 is at the firewall? One mentioned rotor should be pointing at the driver seat.

At the firewall or at the driver seat is not at #1. Right?
