(Re)starting my 69 Firebird restoration effort and would appreciate tech input and recommendations.
For context - my goal is to bring the car back close to original and just drive on weekends, etc. I’ve searched the FORUM and found lots of good info – but some is a bit dated - so here goes: 1. Reproduction parts. General question - any other sources beyond ames, firebirdcentral and classic industries that I should be searching for basic reproduction items like a radiator, trim moldings, glass? 2. Interior specific. Have all original but need everything refreshed. Currently looks like seat / door kits are hard to come by (back order) on the above websites. True? Any recommendations for closest to original, best fit, etc. would be appreciated. 3. Exhaust. Car had headers on it when I bought it. I’ve been following the long-branch manifold saga for years and it doesn’t seem like that situation is improving. Currently thinking about going with the Hedman headers D-port most here say fit well. Any other recommendations would be appreciated. 4. Steering. Originally manual but I found a correct power box, pump, etc. Any known issues with this swap on a 4-speed car (with headers)? 5. Wheels and brakes. Want to upgrade to power discs. I have the original 14x7 Rallys. Any strong reason to move up to 15s? Again, not looking for super performance – this is just a weekend cruiser build. Thanks in advance.
