Default Proto-Systems, Inc. "Hoodscoop Kit"???

Anyone ever see, or heard of, or have one of these electric solenoid operated flapper systems in their shaker? We're looking at a nice '78 180 hp L78 TA that has one installed, probably back in the early 1980's. Here are the installation instructions.

The flapper door is inset about an inch from the rear opening and looks to be bent metal sheet painted matt black hinged from the top. I didn't get any pictures of it, unfortunately.
