Engine Block casting date code?

Looking at a 1966 GTO WS block. The car was built the 3rd week in October 1965.
Does anyone know for sure if the letter i ( I ) was used in block casting date during this period? I have heard yes, and I have heard no. Hopefully someone knows for sure.
