Does anyone know a good way to remove the top windshield reveal molding without using the GM tool? Also, I will be removing the pinchwell molding on my 68 convert next. Any suggestions would help alot. Thanks

You did not mention your type of car, but the reveal molding on most 60s/70s cars are held on by small clips. You can purchase a removal tool from many parts stores for just a few bucks. The one I have is a heavy steel metal stamping that has an arrowhead end. The corners of the arrow head are put between the molding and the clip and then you just turn the tool to pop the clip.

Use a thin soft cloth under the tool to protect the windshield from scratching.

I second the cloth. I was all but done on my moulding, when .... I ran into a stuck clip and tried a little too hard. Now I will need a new windshield when I put it all back together.

 And I thought I was the only one that had done that!!! I actually put a hairline crack across the top of the tint strip on the top right corner. Did it while removing the molding and didnt even see it until cleaning the glass for re-install. PO'd"mean" |

I did it too, and it also was a beautiful tinted windshield.

Unfortunately, my windshield had only been on for a couple hundred miles. No nicks, just clear. Dang! Now I don't have to worry about being careful when getting it out. Here comes the hammer
 just kidding.

I have a small star chip in the windsheid the size of a dime. If I had this repaired will it be structually sound, or will it spread anyway when I try to remove the the glass? It is in great shape except for that. Where is a good place to get a replacement if I need one?

If it is the size of a dime, it will still be quite obvious when repaired, but will stop cracks from propagating. Your local glass shop can get a new windshield.
